2010/11 Audi RS3 - Spied

A high-powered engine in a compact body is always a good thing. While 200 hp was considered plenty of power for a small car just a few years ago, cars like the Mazdaspeed 3 and the defunct Volkswagen Golf R32 have raised the bar to 250 hp and beyond. The top small-car power slots are currently occupied by the 300-hp BMW 135i and the 305-hp Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

Judging from the test mules we've seen on the Nürburgring and whispers from inside the company, it seems that Audi engineers couldn't resist the temptation to trump them all: the company has a 340-hp engine ready for the A3-based RS 3. It's already been adapted to the platform, too, as it’s the same unit that powers the TT RS to be launched this summer. The TT uses a variation of the Golf/A3 platform.
